Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP)

Financial indebtedness, violent crime, domestic violence and substance abuse among other things are a few examples as to why South Africans are severely impacted by stress and mental disorders. Employers experience the impact as the combination of these disorders places enormous strain on employees and their ability to perform at work and live healthy and fulfilled lives.

The World Health Organisation estimates that depression will be the second most disabling condition. The South African Depression and Anxiety Group estimates that 1 in 6 people will suffer from a mental disorder in their lifetime, costing the South African economy over R35 billion a year in lost working days.

The sad culmination of this disease burden is that every six minutes someone in South Africa tries to end their life.

Employee Wellness Programmes (EWP)

The disease burden in South Africa, when compared to our peer countries, is 50% worse. The leading conditions resulting in death and disability are Diabetes, Hypertension (high blood pressure), Hyperlipidaemia (high cholesterol) and HIV/AIDS.

The vast majority of South Africans have no or limited access to treatment and care and the private sector remains unaffordable for two thirds of the workforce.

In workforces where these diseases are unmanaged, the payroll drag is in excess of 5%. Therefore it is costing employers more to not provide any form of health benefit.
